European double

In Europe, bed sizes are defined in centimetres. Wikipedia says the 200 cm (79 in) length is the most common bed length sold by pan-European retailers. The most common double widths are 160, 180 and 200 cm (63, 71 and 79 in). In Northern Europe a 140 x 200 cm small double is also common. That is why this page gives 2.0 m as the length of a double bed in the European sense.[1]

UK, US and Australian doubles

"Double" means a shorter bed in other regions. A UK double is 137 x 191 cm (4 ft 6 in x 6 ft 3 in). In the UK and Ireland, beds are measured by the mattress they hold, not the frame, and there can legally be a tolerance of up to 2 cm. A US full, also called a double, is 54 x 75 in according to Sleep Foundation (Wikipedia gives 136 x 189 cm). An Australian double is 138 x 188 cm. A US queen, at 152 x 202 cm (60 x 79.5 in), is close to the European length.[1][2]
